Preparing for your engagement photo session can be exciting but also a bit overwhelming. By following a few simple steps, you can ensure that your photos capture your love and personality perfectly. This guide will cover everything from choosing a location and outfits to posing and props. With a little planning, you'll be ready to create beautiful and lasting memories of this special time in your lives.

LOCATION

Consider places that hold special meaning to you both. This could be where you first met, had your first date, or have a favorite vacation spot.

Aim for a mix of indoor and outdoor locations. This will give you a variety of options to capture different moods and styles. Also consider the vibe you want to portray - do you want to get all dressed up, be more laid back, or go on an adventure?

Research if you need any permits for specific locations. This is especially important if you plan to shoot on private property or in popular tourist spots.

If you are still stuck and have no idea where to have your session, don't hesitate to ask! I can recommend places that will be the perfect backdrop for your session.

OUTFIT SELECTION

Choose clothes that you feel comfortable and confident in. Your outfits should reflect your personal style and make you feel like yourselves.

Ensure your outfits complement each other without being too matchy-matchy.

• Solid color outfits tend to look better than prints, which can be distracting. If you do go with a print, make sure it’s not overwhelming. If you are a bold person, opt for a super fun pair of shoes or showcase it with your accessories, rather than a bold print!
• Start with a neutral base and build from there. Neutral tones are typically more flattering and cohesive than bright colors. Pick two or three neutrals to start with and then add little accents of color if you want!

Dress appropriately for the weather and time of year. You don't want to be freezing cold or sweating profusely during your photo session.

HAIR & MAKEUP

Opt for a natural look that accentuates your features. You want to look like yourselves, just enhanced.

Consider going to a professional hairstylist and makeup artist for a flawless appearance. This can take the stress out of getting ready and ensure that you look your best.

Don’t underestimate the power of a manicure! Since this is an engagement session, I am going to be focused on your hands and your bling! Gents, having your nails groomed is also a good idea!

PROPS

Consider bringing personal items that represent your relationship, such as a piece of jewelry, a handwritten love letter or a sentimental object. This will add a personal touch to your photos and make them even more meaningful. Speaking of jewelry, don't forget to clean your ring!

WHAT TO BRING THE DAY OF

• Music: Create a playlist of your favorite songs to set the mood during the shoot! No worries if you don't get to this one - I'll bring the tunes regardless!
